Paul Cluver Pinot Noir 2009
Paul Cluver Pinot Noir 2009

A good Pinot Noir is the most seductive wine on earth. The essence of a great Pinot Noir is purity of fruit with structure and balance. This 2008 Pinot Noir from Paul Cluver has all of this in spades with finesse, elegance and charm to be truly savoured with good food and good company.

Paul Cluver Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Paul Cluver Sauvignon Blanc 2013

A great example of a cool climate sauvignon with aromas of green pepper, figs and gooseberry. with a deep mineral core and a lively palate with refreshing acidity. The palate is very pure and bursting with flavour with a deep mineral and a stylish richness. Lovely to drink alone or with a range of fish or chicken dishes.

Paul Cluver Noble Late Harvest Riesling 2013
Paul Cluver Noble Late Harvest Riesling 2013

Another stunning example of this iconic wine. This vintage is complex and elegant with perfumed, floral notes, hints of ripe peaches and pineapple and concentrated flavours of marmalade, beeswax and honey with a long finish. Drink as an aperitif, with cheese, desserts or simply as a dessert. While there is a considerable amount of residual sugar, the acidity gives it a lovely freshness and the finish is very clean - a real pick-me-up at only 9% ABV Read more...

Paul Cluver Riesling Dry Encounter 2014
Paul Cluver Riesling Dry Encounter 2014

What a versatile wine! Fresh, crisp, floral tones with a lean elegant mouthfeel and a mineral backbone. Great with spicy foods, seafood, sushi, even beef carpaccio. Drinking beautifully now but will age for at least 5-7 years.

Jancis Robinson : "Those who know me well know my great love of Riesling, the greatest white wine grape in the world even if some wines labelled Riesling are disgusting. I'd like to hand a bouquet here to the South African king of Riesling, Paul Cluver, major pioneer of the cool South African region of Elgin."

Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir 2010
Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir 2010

“Frankly, the Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir is a revelation; there is an ethereal quality I’ve not found in any other South African Pinot. Its luminosity, purity of perfumed fruit & silky texture all encourage a feeling of lightness. But do not be deceived, there is no lack of substance as a period of 5-7 years will reveal.” Angela Lloyd has worked on the Platter Guide for 25 yrs.

Paul Cluver Chardonnay 2009
Paul Cluver Chardonnay 2009

As in all the Cluver wines, the flavours are really pure and fresh with cool climate lemon and lime elegantly brushed with nuts and cream from the seemless oak integration with a backbone of minerality. Finish goes on and on. Very Burgundian. The 2009 has won the Old Mutual Trophy for best white wine in SA & more recently best wine wine in Southern hemisphere. February 2012 - 91pts from Wine Spectator.  Read more 2011 & 2013 vintages also available.

Paul Cluver Close Encounter Riesling 2012
Paul Cluver Close Encounter Riesling 2012

The second of three Rieslings made on the Paul Cluver farm. It is so named because it came very close to being uprooted when Riesling was less well recognised in the Cape. The farm manager also had a close encounter in the vineyard when an unexpected local train came through the vineyard one day and almost bisected both him and his tractor. Thankfully, Christian, the tractor, and most importantly, the vineyard all survived! This is a special selection from a high level vineyard. The resulting wine has wonderful purity of fruit, minerality, complexity and the very pleasant advantage of a lower alcohol content - 9.5%. Great to drink alone, with fish, shellfish and particularly with oriental or spicy dishes. Long lived.

Paul Cluver Gewurtztraminer 2012
Paul Cluver Gewurtztraminer 2012

This is a most beautiful, perfumed, elegant, delicate, ethereal wine. One could simply savour it's aroma without ever even tasting it but that would be a mistake. It has all the flavour characteristics one expects from a gewurtz but nothing of the big, sometimes blowsy, blockbuster qualities that one sometimes finds. As a bonus, it  is only 12% ABV. Lovely slightly chilled as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to fusion food styles.  Delicious.
